Abstract: Internet of Things (IoT) is connecting the world, and things are becoming dynamically interactive. The future of the interactive world is being carved by the advancement in the field of Internet of Things. Graphene-based technologies, a new paradigm in miniaturization of IoT devices, plays a lead role in carrying the future of IoT ahead, as it can handle interactivity by controlling physical devices at nano-scale level. The paper illustrates a novel prototype of a Graphene-based IoT device (i.e. a skinny mobile phone) that folds, flexes. The IoT device “Voice-Magstripe” is a razor thin handset powered by flexible battery units (micro-supercapacitors) or see-through solar panels built directly into a colorful screen. The proposed inventive model is an ‘all-in-one’ multifunction flexible device which augments the operations of a smartphone and a smartcard in a systematic way. “Voice-Magstripe” is a two layered ‘graphene’ architecture that encompasses a novel concept of embedding a dynamic rewritable/reconfigurable magnetic stripe onto a flexible graphene sheet by utilizing nano-sized graphene solenoid(s). The invention paves a way for a future of IoT devices that are cheaper and easier to handle thus avoiding the hustle of carrying bulky IoT gadgets.

Abstract: The modern age is driven by video streaming services. Video streaming vendors allow the viewers to view the digital content on televisions, desktops, laptops, phones, electronic gadgets, etc. The video streaming platforms run on the monthly subscription model, wherein the streaming services acquire licensing rights to the digital content and further make the content available to the customers based on the type of subscription chosen by a user. As the over-the-top (OTT) platforms gain popularity in video streaming services, delivery of preference-based digital content to the consumers seems to bring about a paradigm shift in video streaming services. However, the consumer can view only one content at one time as the transmission station broadcasting the composite video signal accommodates separate video channels on separate frequency windows by applying modulation techniques. The paper discloses a novel method for embedding multiple video frames into a single video stream by utilizing a genetic algorithm, such that multiple consumers can view multiple preference-based video contents at one time.

Abstract: The research paper discloses a theoretical model of a ‘content personalization device’ that functions over an Operating System (OS) of any mobile handheld device. The device is in the form of a thin layered transparent film that fits on the screen of the mobile device. Abstract: SmelloT refers to a digitized framework adopted by electronic devices to electrify scent. It integrates smell into a communication system that allows users to code, digitize, transmit, and recreate scent shared over a network. In this paper, we propose a scent recreating interface that facilitates electrical stimulation of smell sensations for a target user. The interface relies on galvanic coupling manifested via silver electrodes that are placed over the nasal cavity in a manner that actuate the epithelium cells responsible for olfaction by inducing electric impulses. The current and frequency parameters of these impulses are varied across time intervals to study the effectiveness of the interface on the olfactory receptors of the real user. The affected cells communicate the olfactory information to the brain via the olfactory nerve, thereby realizing the electrified smell. We performed experiments by placing two silver electrodes (1-2 cm apart) on top of a nose at 4.5-5 cm from the nostrils. Electric impulses in the range of 2mA - 4mA are provided at varying frequencies of 4, 20, 60, and 170 Hz for a duration of 15 sec each. The results revealed that the electrodes were able to electrically stimulate the olfactory receptors through galvanic coupling as the participant was able to perceive smells of different types such as fragrant, sweet, minty, chemical smells, and so on. The paper further proposes a novel ‘smell-o-search’ application that integrates a smell search option into a conventional search engine to enable users to search for similar scent profiles across a geography.

Abstract: The human body radiates a long-wavelength IR of about 10 microns or 10 μm. Planck’s law allows us to describe the amount of energy the body gives off as radiation of different frequencies in mathematical terms. The paper harnesses these IR properties for allowing surgeons to perform surgeries remotely. The paper proposes a system composed of a novel medical device [IR camera + Projector] with a pair of attached robotic arms that capture an image of a target organ of a patient and reproduce it at a remote location having another device [IR camera + Projector]. The paper discloses a method to reimage a 3D interactive display for the captured image that enables in-volume interaction with the stereoscopic 3D volume. The method provides an integrated touch sensing mechanism where IR cameras detect human hand, finger, and body interactions within the floating 3D display volume. As the surgeon interacts with the 3D display at the remote location, the actions are reproduced by the robotic arms provided on the medical device at the patient’s location. Thus, by using ‘Light Coded Language’ in the form of ‘infrared thermography,’ depth sensing technology is employed for operating the patient remotely. The proposed system is explicitly outlined for conducting medical emergencies.

Abstract: In 1924, de Broglie proposed that every matter has an accompanying matter wave which contains information and functions like matter itself. The paper discloses an electric device that utilizes resonant frequency of the earth (i.e., 7.8 Hz) to activate and transfer matter waves of a pill/drug to water that possesses memory. Our research findings demonstrate that the matter wave expressions imprinted onto water replicate the functionality of the original matter—thereby showing that the biological reactions could occur without physical presence of the material. Abstract: Humans have five basic senses that are essentially outward bound. These senses take care of the human survival process. Concurrently, there is an enormous degree of involuntary activity unfolding within a human body that humans are literally not aware of. Some of the examples include water circulating through the body, blood flow within the body, the functional activity of lungs, heart, kidneys, brain, etc. The research proposal discloses a first-of-its-kind method of developing an inward bound ‘sense’ for harnessing perception beyond the ‘five senses’ which are distinctively outward bound. The proposal involves monitoring, recording and analyzing the acoustic fingerprint of the blood around the blood vessels as it flows through them. Abstract: Virus like any other object has its own unique frequency signature that makes the virus vibrate at a certain frequency. Due to this natural frequency of vibration, the virus is susceptible to resonate at a frequency that is tuned to its own fundamental frequency. Abstract: The proposed idea is a non-invasive method for identifying the blood group of a patient without puncturing/breaking the skin. The paper presents a method to automatically determine human blood type by applying image processing algorithms to the optically captured images of superficial capillaries underlying the skin surface. Abstract: The research proposal discloses an electronic see-through skin that can be worn or wrapped around any object (i.e., human body, hands, legs, brain, etc.) and would allow to see-through the object irrespective of its physicality. Abstract: The proposed research discloses a novel mechanism for repairing and maintaining the electronic circuits during an event of failure without actually dismantling or opening-up the device circuit boards. The mechanism uses light field technology, wherein a 3D interactive view of the short circuit component is projected so that the technician can directly interact with the 3D display and in turn fix the wiring in the actual device circuit without physically interacting with the circuit. As the technician interacts with the 3D display, the light source within the internal circuitry generates multiple light beams that fluctuate with varying intensities and apply an optical force on the damaged circuit components so that the circuit components align and re-arrange themselves. We have used Spatial Light Modulator (SLM) for this purpose since the SLM optimizes and focuses light on the target (damaged) circuit component and can drive the component mechanically with greater magnitude. The optimization of SLM is carried out by using the Genetic Algorithm (GA). The simulation results for the optimized SLM based on GA are presented in the research proposal.

Abstract: Electrical energy consumed worldwide today amounts to about 22,500 terawatt-hour (TWh). A larger chunk of this electrical energy is used to produce light energy. Excessive production of light energy (termed as 'light pollution') causes a disturbance in the natural environment that living beings live in. The very light energy when produced above a threshold poses certain drawbacks such as disrupting ecosystems, in particular affecting nocturnal wildlife, adverse health effects such as sleep disorders, increased headaches, etc. Hence, there seems to be a stronger need for developing a substitute for electrical form energy used for producing light energy. Abstract: The research proposal discloses a novel microscopic device and method for making a colorless pathogen specimen (i.e., virus, bacteria) visible to the human eye. The novel device fits like a headgear on a user’s head. Further, the novel method involves the usage of evanescent waves that are generated by surfaces of the objects that undergo excitation on the incidence of a certain light wavelength. Abstract: IoT is revolutionizing the way we live life today. Hundreds of thousands of devices are entering the Internet connected world and sending / receiving tons of data at scales never before seen. Smart phones, smart refrigerators, smart bands, activity monitors, smart watches and plenty more devices are seamlessly communicating with each other. Prior to the emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT), the data producers and consumers were large enterprises. Apart from the large enterprises - if we could observe the banking & transportation sectors, one would notice that banks processed data referring to the millions of transactions everyday - Transportation companies like FedEx were surrounded by omnipresent data points - around every package they delivered. All of the above mentioned data needed to be stored in a secure environment. Today, data storage is rooting its base beyond the conventional enterprises - into the IoT framework - dealing with newer landscapes for upcoming industries (e.g. smart homes) and IoT devices (e.g. smart-watch). With all the data being exchanged between a plethora of devices, storing and remembering the secret & sensitive data (i.e. passwords, keys) is posing a serious challenge. With the advent of IoT, the number of devices possessed by an individual has close to doubled - owing to the increase in sensitive secret data. Abstract: The paper discloses an innovative system and approach to harness wireless Wi-Fi technology by enabling trees to generate wireless signal via biodegradable chips. The wireless signals undergo beamforming in order to focus the signals in a desired direction. The signals apart from beamformed ones are exposed to a tiny membrane that essentially converts the wireless signals (form of radio waves) incident on it into visible light. The radio waves hence are converted into photosynthetically active form of radiation and therefore the converted radiation is further distributed in the tree habitat. Abstract: In today's IoT world, an increasing number of devices are getting connected to one another every day. All these devices basically operate on the framework of the Internet. Abstract: The research paper discloses a novel method to transmit audio content over a secure communication channel by using light optics. The proposal uses Light-based Doppler Interferometry(LDI) to measure sound-field in the room. The measured sound-field values are used to create silence bubbles at the sender and recipient side by using hybrid active noise-cancellation to ensure effective communication. An audio signal is picked up from the speaker placed at the sender’s side and is used to modulate the current source that drives an LED light. Upon audio-to-light conversion, the output optical signal is transmitted through the air to the intended recipient present at the other end of the room, who is some distance away from the sender. The experiments were performed using the LED light and a laser diode separately to explore different options available for indoor communication. According to the experimental results, LED light could transmit 12 dB more power than the laser diode across different audio frequencies for both setups of no air gap (i.e. 0cm) and an air gap of 4cm between the light source and photodetector. Also, it was identified that the laser diode transmitted consistent power for a known distance as compared to LED light. The attenuation for LED light and laser diode with respect to distance was found to be ≈5.5 dB/cm and ≈4.9 dB/cm respectively.

Abstract: The research paper unveils the design and development of a sustainable biofibre-based signal enhancer used for wireless signal enhancement. Abstract: The paper illustrates a novel concept & implementation technique for "[Bio-Net]-of-Things (BoT)". BoT discloses a method for bringing all the living systems online - so we have humans, IoT devices (inanimate) & bacteria, viruses, plants, crops, etc. all under one bracket of Internet. In this paper we are envisaging symbiotic intelligence for solving the problem of air pollution through BoT. We are facing the pollution menace from vehicles, industries, etc. to a greater extent, especially to the people who are living near roadsides in cities. Carbon monoxide, Nitrogen oxides (NO_x), SO₂ are the prominent air pollutants found in most cities. Out of these, NO_x is one of the major pollutants emitted from vehicles. NO_x gases react to form smog and acid rain, as well as being central to the formation of fine particles and ground level ozone, both of which are associated with adverse health effects. The paper demonstrates a setup that utilizes the photo catalytic effect of Titanium dioxide (TiO₂) for reducing the effect of air pollution. The pollutants in the air are explicitly identified with the help of on-chip spectrometers and TiO₂ is economically sprayed onto those target air pollutants. The cost effective usage of TiO₂ is worked out by implementing an 'Unsupervised Particle Swarm Optimization' algorithm. The viability of the proposed IoT platform is confirmed by building a smart test-bed for executing the unsupervised algorithm. Experimental results show that BoT can be effectively deployed through this algorithmic middleware which can support 'n' no. of BoT devices. Thus a pioneering technique is disclosed for tackling the problem of air pollution.

Abstract: The paper discloses a novel concept of developing a conscious machine. Human consciousness is a driving factor behind the presented concept. ‘Integrated Information Theory (IIT)’ is applied to the hardware circuits in order to make the circuit(s) with a certain configuration active/alive. We have used an evolutionary algorithm that combines ‘Evolvable Hardware’ with ‘Integrated Information Theory of Consciousness’ to develop a conscious set of machines. Evolvable hardware is simulated by using Darwin’s evolution theory that is related to Genetic Algorithms (GA). Further, IIT is integrated into the results of first GA so as to harness the consciousness factor in circuits with a certain circuit configuration. The results of the evolutionary algorithm are evaluated to validate the proposed concept.

Abstract: The paper discloses a ‘spatial light modulating wearable device’ that acts as a substitute to conventional eyewear. The device is a wearable band that fits over the forehead. It operates on the principle of ‘Mirage effect’. The wearable band captures heat given off by a human body at the posterior regions (i.e. left & right end) of the face - just below the ears. The heat captured by the device is conveniently channelized to heat up the air lying on the positive/front side of the human eye. Heat channelization is accomplished through a number of vantage points that are incorporated on the wearable device. These standpoints direct heat through specific channels for warming the air at a peculiar distance such that light gets modulated before entering the subject’s eye. Therefore, the device's mirage effect allows ‘optical modulation’ of light rays (i.e. modulation of the spatially distributed light rays) as they enter the human eye.

Abstract: Inspired by 'The Google Glass', this paper shows a method of capturing 3D images/videos by using a wearable contact lens based on eye movement detection. The paper puts light on the methods that can be used to track and detect eye movement (i.e. blinks or winks) through sensors installed on the contacts for capturing picturesque 3D scenes. Abstract: Placebo effect is an epidemic phenomenon observed in subjects who perceive an improvement in his/her medical condition due to personal beliefs, rather than the drug treatment itself. Placebos play a significant role in medical research. Common placebos administered by the doctors include inert tablets (like sugar pills), shame surgery (placebo surgery), and other procedures opted by providing false information. Placebo effects are prominently driving the scientific research aiming to unravel the underlying neurobiological facets of action in pain relief, Parkinson’s disease, depression etc. Placebos have been observed to impact the physiological changes in the human body, such as heart rate, blood pressure accompanied by the chemical activity in the brain, in medical cases which involve pain, anxiety, fatigue, etc. The placebo effect projects the notable influence of perception and brain’s role in the physical health of a human. However, the question of how placebos work has still not been answered with utmost surety by medical science. Abstract: The space around the planet Earth is littered with a vast amount of ‘Space Debris’. Space debris, junk, rubbish, remains, waste, or trash is a cluster of obsolete man-designed articles in space – old dilapidated satellites, wastes from multi-stage rockets, and flakes derived from erosion, collisions caused by debris itself or malfunctioning space units. This orbiting debris is growing at an alarming rate and posing a serious threat to the operational orbits above the planet. There is enough scientific evidence to suggest that the debris density at the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) has already reached a sufficient level to trigger a chain reaction of debris-collisions. To avoid any damage to the essential orbiting satellites and to keep the planet’s space sustainable, we ought to soon embark on a mission of cleaning-up the space debris. Space organizations and scientific communities around the world are well-informed of the threat space debris possesses and have developed solutions on how to tackle the problem for a better future. Prominent solutions for the above problem includes launching a spacecraft for actively removing the dangerous plethora of space debris pieces. Such a missioner-spacecraft would isolate / de-orbit or clean several targets (i.e. debris) during one single mission. This raises a significantly relevant question of “what kind of targets and in what order should the spacecraft visit them?” This paper answers the above question. The paper presents a novel method of employing ‘NeuroG’ (i.e. Neuro-engine) on a satellite platform for removing the space junk in a cost-effective & coherent manner.
